If
we can think of dreams as real we can have a happier life.
I was talking with a close friend during
recently about the death of a well known writer. Our conversation switched to
the death of his brother and the time he spent with him on the day before he
died.
He then spoke of a dream where he met his
brother who looked bright, healthy and fresh. He hugged him and kissed him on
the cheek. Then they joyfully made their way into a holy place to meditate and
enjoy the beauty around them.
When he woke up from the dream it took several
minutes to adjust himself to the realisation that his brother was dead to this
physical world. The reality of the dream was so strong and vivid that it was
difficult to convince his mind that his brother was indeed dead.
Our (Western) belief in the one life theory robs us of the joy to be had from such joyful reunions. Instead of enjoying the meeting with his brother and accepting it as that, his belief system forced him to devalue his dream experience. If we can see our dreams as real and a part of our lives and begin to use the blessings and knowledge they give us we will we have a source of wisdom to help us lead happier lives.
